El Vedado
Costs of rooms in this zone are between 25-30 USD. Constructions in this
area are modern, and there are plenty of cultural centers, movies, discos and other
interesting places to visit. On 23 street, there is El Pabellón Cuba, big structured
building dedicated to expose ferias. Just in front on the same street, a must see
arts feria, where exquisite articles made on wood, metal and skins are exposed and selled.
Other interesting places are The University of Havana, the UNEAC gardens, center where
artists and writers meet together and celebrate cultural activities. In 23 and L streets,
you can eat the exquisite ice cream at Coppelia.
El Vedado is caracterized for its modernity -almost all its buildings in
this neighbourhood are less than 70 years, considering that Havana is an old city.
The fanciest hotels in Havana can be found within this area, Hotel Nacional, Habana
Libre, and Hotel Presidente are some of them. There are also some markets and commercial
stores, theaters and movies. The most notable cuban traditional restaurants in Vedado are
El Cochinito, La Roca, Sofía, El Conejito, and the famous 1830 restaurant, located in
Malecon, a few meters from the shore and Almendares river.
Periodically, in decembers, the
International Movie Festival of Havana is celebrated in this city. This event join top
artists and directors from iberoamerican area. The city gets transformed, and specially El
Vedado, where the most important activities and movie expositions take place.
